Alzheimer's
Association - Upstate SC Chapter
The Alzheimer's Association--Upstate South Carolina Chapter-- is a
non-profit charitable tax-exempt, voluntary health organization
dedicated to family support, education, research, and advocacy. The
National headquarter is located in Chicago. There are approximately 4.5
million persons affected by Alzheimer's Disease or related dementia in
the United States. It is estimated that 50,000 of those are in SC.
American Leprosy
Missions
Founded in 1906, American Leprosy Missions (ALM) provides care to
people around the world with leprosy and related disabilities. ALM is a
non-denominational Christian ministry of hope and restoration in
Greenville, SC for those suffering with this disease. The ministry
supports more than 100 projects in approximately 20 countries.

The Piedmont Chapter serves Spartanburg,
Union, and Cherokee counties in the Upstate of South Carolina.

Charles Lea Center
The mission of the Charles Lea Center is to
be the organization dedicated to supporting people with disabilities
and special needs where they live, work and play. Programs for
individuals and family support are available, as well as supported
employment and clinical services.
H.A.L.T.E.R.
H. A .L. T. E. R. is an affordable
Therapeutic Horseback Riding program which has served handicapped
residents of Spartanburg (and surrounding counties) and students at the
South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind since 1987.
Hope
and Light Foundation is dedicated to funding
research to eliminate SMA, a deadly genetic disease and the leading
genetic killer of babies and toddlers under the age of two. Hope and
Light hopes educate families and communities about the existence of
this disease.
Hospice
Care of South Carolina needs volunteers! What a
great way to become involved in the community! Help with patient care,
small household chores, or childcare. Groups are also welcome to help
with small home repairs, building ramps, yard work, etc. Volunteers are
also needed in our Hospice offices, or to bake cookies or make

Mary Black Foundation
Our mission is to improve the health and wellness of the people and
communities of Spartanburg County. We define “health and
wellness” broadly — as complete physical, mental,
and social well-being — and devote the majority of our
resources to efforts that address the underlying causes of poor health
outcomes in Spartanburg County.
Mary Black Health System
On January 28, 1925, Dr. Hugh Ratchford Black opened a 35-bed hospital
on the corner of Oakland Avenue and East Main Street in honor of his
wife, Mary Black. Six patients were admitted that day. After 78 years
of service to this community, Mary Black Memorial Hospital, an acute
care facility licensed for 209 beds, continues to build on a tradition
of excellence in medical care. Today, our medical staff of
approximately 350 physicians represents all major specialties.

Health Association of the Piedmont, Inc.
This organization works to promote mental health and prevent mental
illnesses through advocacy, education, research and service.
Partners for
Active Living is a community-based initiative in
Spartanburg, SC. Targeting an increase in physical activity and
improved health of Spartanburg residents, Partners for Active Living
advocates and pursues the creation of activity friendly environments (a
community where walking and bicycling are a normal part of daily life)
and promotes active lifestyles.
Piedmont
Care is a nonprofit organization serving the
Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union communities by providing HIV/AIDS
care, prevention, and advocacy.

Center
Every day blood is needed in hospitals and emergency treatment
facilities for patients with cancer and other diseases, for organ
transplant recipients, and to save the lives of accident victims.
Giving blood is easy, safe and takes less than one hour, but only about
five percent of eligible Americans donate blood. Donations are

Free and confidential services available in Greenville, SC include, but
are not limited to: free pregnancy tests with immediate results and
confidential counseling; a safe and secure place to talk about your
feelings and explore all your alternatives; limited ultrasounds through
your first trimester; referrals for medical and legal aid and
information; and information and counceling about sexually transmitted
