New Rail Trail Park Gets Nod From City Council

A new city park along the Mary Black Foundation Rail Trail took a big step forward recently as City Council approved an agreement with Partners for Active Living.

The agreement has raised $782,000 for the first phase of the project, and continues to seek additional funding for more park amenities. The park, which will be located near the Rail Trail’s intersection with Forest Avenue, would be constructed using the funds raised by PAL, while the City will accept maintenance and operational responsibility for the park, and will assist in management of the construction work.

Council also gave final approval to a $235,000 measure giving raises to police and firefighters with seven to 14 years of service. Staff recommended the increases to bring salaries for police and fire personnel between those years of service back up to competitive levels.
