City Council Approves Northside Master Plan

Spartanburg City Council voted 6-0 to approve a trio of items crucial to the Northside Initiative as the City prepares to apply for a $30 million federal Neighborhood Choice grant to redevelop the area.

Among the items passed was the Northside Master Plan itself. Developed after a two-day planning workshop last year, the plan outlines how the area is to be redevloped, including the construction of a new T.K. Gregg Community Center, daylighting of the Butterfly Branch currently piped under the neighborhood, as well as streetscaping enhancements and new housing throughout the area. Council also approved the second reading to condemn the Oakview Apartments property (follow this link for more) and a purchase option agreement for a 29 northside properties totaling around $1.5 million. Purchase of the properties is contingent on the City receiving the federal grant.
