City Rolls Out New Let’s Play! Mobile Recreation Program

Thanks to a $42,500 grant from the Mary Black Foundation, the City of Spartanburg will soon be able to bring recreation programming directly to children anywhere in the city with the mobile recreation program Let’s Play!

The program uses a mobile recreation vehicle complete with kid-friendly theme music and cabinets overflowing with balls, hoola hoops, jump ropes, arts and crafts, roller blades and more.

City of Spartanburg parks and recreation staffers will visit areas with limited access to play areas and other recreational amenities. From neighborhoods to schools, day care centers and churches, Let’s Play! will promote active living and healthy eating by providing play equipment and healthy snacks at each stop. The goal of Let’s Play! is to introduce youth to recreational activities that are fun and challenging, while encouraging them to be active now and during their entire lives.

Let’s Play! will be seen throughout the community promoting active play and healthy eating, establishing new places to play and enriching current play opportunities, leading to an increased number of people leading more active lives.
