District Seven Gets Great Catch in New Baseball Coach

Spartanburg High School baseball fans will have good reason to hit the bleachers next spring.

The District Seven administration announced today that North Augusta’s Wesley Brown will join the Vikings as Head Baseball Coach in fall 2015. During his five-year tenure at Fox Creek High School in North Augusta, Brown guided the baseball program to new heights and leaves the school with an impressive winning streak.

Pointing to a 110-26-3 record at Fox Creek, along with five consecutive region championships, Jeff Stevens, principal at Spartanburg High School said, “We are super excited about Coach Brown joining our staff. We feel he possesses all the qualities of a great coach. This is a plus for the future of our program to have someone of his caliber leading our young people.”

In joining the largest athletic classification in South Carolina, Brown says he’s equally excited about the move to Spartanburg. “This is a dream come true for me to get the chance to compete at the highest level in South Carolina baseball. What I have in front of me is a dream opportunity, a chance to compete against the biggest and the best the state has to offer.”

In addition to his position as head coach for the Vikings, Brown will also serve as the school’s assistant strength and conditioning coach. SHS Athletic Director, Todd Staley said he and his folks interviewed some of the best baseball coaches from the state of South Carolina. “Through the process it became increasingly clear that Coach Brown was the person to take the reigns as our new head baseball coach,” Staley said. “His vision and plan for our program is one we feel will reflect our present needs and will take us in the direction we need to go for the long run.”

Brown graduated from Silver Bluff High School in 1995. A native of Jackson, South Carolina, he walked on at Anderson College (now Anderson University) and got a scholarship as the team’s starting shortstop. He was an assistant at Barnwell from 1999 to 2002, runner-up for two state championships, Dyersburg State Community College in Tennessee in 2003, South Aiken in 2004, Midland Valley in 2005 and 2006 and South Aiken from 2007 to 2010 with one state runner-up finish.
