Help Out Over
the Holidays! Area Non-Profits Offer Opportunities to Give
 |

|
The
Spartanburg community cares. With the colder months and the holidays
approaching, local non-profit organizations need your support to make the holidays bright. No
amount of time, money, or talent is too small to help your neighbors
this winter.
- Run a Race for Toys on
December 2! The
race begins at 11AM and last until 12:30PM at North
Spartanburg Sports Complex, 1160 Old Furnace Road, Boiling
Springs. Bring a toy and get a race at a discount
price. All toys to be donated to a local charity.
Call 864-587-7424 for more information.
- Celebrate the holidays at the Soup Kitchen on
Magnolia Street in Spartanburg! Call
864-583-6320 to find
out how you can help.
- Christmas gifts for adults and children who eat
at the Soup Kitchen will be distributed on December 21 from
11:30AM-12:30PM. Blankets
and coats will also be distributed.
- The Soup
Kitchen is hosting a Christmas Day Celebration from 11:30AM-12:30PM. A
Christmas meal will be served to needy families. Fruit bags will be
distributed.
- Ring
in the New Year with a New Year's Celebration at the Soup Kitchen!
11:30AM-12:30PM. A traditional New Year's meal will
be served, and
clothing items will be distributed.
- Shine your halo and flex your wings; The
Salvation Army needs angels!
- Buy gifts for a child in need through The
Salvation Army Angel Tree program. To locate an Angel Tree in
the community or to
find out how to place an Angel Tree in your organization, please call
Captain Stacie McWilliams at 573-5493.
- Stuff a stocking this holiday season!
This opportunityi is lots of fun for younger
children! The Salvation Army
supplies the stockings and you fill them with new items that children
would enjoy. A list of suggested items is included with each
stocking and feel free to get creative to show these children how much
they are loved. Please call Captain Stacie McWilliams at 573-5493
for more information.
- The Salvation Army's New Toy Drive and Canned
Food Drive are great for
large church groups or businesses! New toys are always needed
for children whose Angels are not adopted from an Angel Tree.
The Salvation Army puts together packages of toys and other needed
items depending on the donations received from the community.
For more information on holding a New Toy or
Canned Food Drive,
please call Captain Stacie McWilliams at 573-5493.
- One of
the most recognizable means of fundraising
for The Salvation Army is the Red Kettles at
Christmastime. The donations left in these kettles
provide
funding for Salvation Army programs and services throughout the
year. Please consider a donation to the Red Kettles this
season!
Individuals and groups can adopt kettles to watch
over for a day,
several days or throughout the kettle season from mid-November to
Christmas Eve. Shifts are flexible to meet the availability of the
volunteers. This is a fun way for businesses and service clubs to
compete! For more information on adopting a
Kettle, please call Mr. Jack Rhodehamel at 573-5493.
- The Goodfellows
campaign is back for another year!
Begun in 1947 by the Herald-Journal, the campaign is a tradition
that has made the holiday season brighter for thousands of needy
Upstate families by putting food on their tables. If you would
like to
join in
this community effort,
send a tax-deductible donation to Goodfellows, Inc., P.O. Box 18192,
Spartanburg,
SC, 29318.
- The Spartanburg Humane Society is offering holiday photos with Santa this year, with all proceeds benefitting SHS' work with homeless animals. SHS Executive Vice President AND gifted portrait photographer Danny Bellows will
once again take holiday photos at the shelter.
All family members are welcome (even humans) and Santa will be available
for portraits. No appointments are necessary, and photos will be ready in 24 hours! For more information, visit
