Jens Lindemann Returns to Spartanburg on February 13th

Grammy award nominee Jens Lindemann will return to the stage with Sarah Ioannides and the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturday, February 13th at 8:00 pm in Twichell Auditorium.

Back by popular demand, this amazing performer will be joined by the Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble and soprano Tish Oney, offering another exciting and romantic Valentine’s Day gala.

As the orchestra has done every year, the concert will begin a little later than usual, starting at 8:00 pm. This is timed to perfectly pair with any romantic evening – dinner followed by a great show!

Jens Lindemann is hailed as one of the most celebrated soloists in his instrument’s history and was recently awarded the prestigious Order of Canada. Jens has played in every major concert venue in the world: from the Philharmonics of New York, Los Angeles, London, and Berlin to Tokyo’s Suntory Hall and even the Great wall of China. His career has ranged from playing lead trumpet with the famous Canadian Brass ensemble to a solo Command Performance for the Queen of England. Jens has also won major awards ranging from Grammy and Juno nominations to winning the prestigious Echo Klassik in Germany as well as receiving an honorary doctorate.

Many are still talking about the last time Lindemann visited Spartanburg. In the grand finale of the 2013 Valentine’s Day concert, the esteemed soloists “dueled” with Spartanburg’s own Tom Wright (saxophone), improvising over the classic, “A Night in Tunisia.” After an epic jazz battle, Lindemann flew the white flag, playing Taps as he lay on the stage. Perhaps, he is returning to go head-to-head with our star saxophone once again.

Lead by Dr. Tom Wright, the Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble is made up of musicians young and seasoned, amateur and professional, from Spartanburg, South Carolina, and surrounding areas. Established in 1996 to provide an outlet for these community players, the ensemble offers quality jazz performances to the public.

The SJE is a part of the nonprofit organization, the Spartanburg Community Band. The ensemble regularly performs in the downtown Spartanburg Jazz on the Square series, and their signature yearly concerts, Ice Cream Sundays Summer Concert Series and Winter Jazz at the Chapman Center, are very popular.

Singing with both the SPO and the SJE, soprano Tish Oney will also join in the evening’s festivities. A mainstay in the Los Angeles and New York jazz scenes, Tish is a popular soloist in the upstate of South Carolina where she lives. Tish has received critical acclaim and international recognition for her recordings and stage presence. She continues to actively record, compose, arrange, teach master classes, and appear worldwide as a soloist in both jazz and classical circles. Her diverse artistic talents combine to form an outstanding vocal artist with exceptional technique, improvisational skill, and expertise.
