Landrum High School Student Uses Her Skills and Influence to Help Others

Maddie Lee, a junior at Landrum High School, has been driving a car since she was nine years old.

Not only has she has been legally driving since a very young age, she has been driving far above the 25, 35, and 55 miles an hour most drivers adhere to. She is a third generation drag racer. Maddie’s early driving career started on the race track long before she began driving on public roads.

And maybe it is that early experience that has made her especially concerned about driving safely. “Racing is a dangerous sport at all levels. You have only seconds to make a decision and to react. Safety has always been at the core of everything I have been taught as a driver.” Maddie is so serious about the subject of driving safely that she has launched K.A.T.Z. Kids Against Texting and Driving. “Nothing you have to say is worth a life.”

Maddie has dedicated her Junior Dragster to the cause and has lots of support if the many signatures from fellow drivers are any indication. “I ask fellow drivers at every event I attend to take the pledge to not text while driving and to sign my car. The influence that these drivers have on their fans and the impact of my car as a visual is tremendous.”

Maddie was recently featured in a four page article by Megan Doubleday in the magazine JR. DRAGSTER. Click here to read the article.
