New Day Clubhouse Burns

Fifty daily members of the New Day Clubhouse recently woke up to discover their clubhouse had burned and they can’t go to a place that provides them with comfort, rehabilitation services and skills training.

The fire was reported at 12:10 a.m. and by 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5th it was obvious the building was a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The mission of the Clubhouse is to help adults diagnosed with mental illness develop their ability to live as independently as possible within our community.

‘It is very sad day to see the devastation of the fire,’ said Jane Clemmer, Executive Director of the Clubhouse. ‘Our members depend on a safe homelike environment where they experience support, understanding, and opportunities for personal growth and that has been taken away.”

The Clubhouse staff are calling their members and working to make arrangements to continue their services. United Way of the Piedmont is supporting them and working closely with New Day to ensure the much needed services continue in our community.

“Jane and her team are doing a great job in working through this difficult time. My heart goes out to all the members, their families, the staff and board members impacted by this terrible accident.”, said Doug Eberhart, President of United Way of the Piedmont.
