Spartanburg High School and Spartanburg School District 7 to Present All Shook Up

Put on your “Blue Suede Shoes” and join the Fine Arts Department of Spartanburg High School and School District 7 as they present All Shook Up, The Music of Elvis Presley.

All Shook Up is a 2004 American jukebox musical comedy based on a book by Joe DiPietro and William Shakespeare’s 1602 play Twelfth Night.

From May 26 – 29, the Chapman Cultural Center will rock n’roll with your favorite Elvis tunes.  The story takes place in 1955, somewhere in middle America, where a surprise visit from a mysterious leather-jacketed, guitar-playing stranger helps a small town discover the magic of romance and the power of rock and roll. Among the many Elvis songs featured are classics like “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Love Me Tender,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and of course the title tune, “All Shook Up.”

Students from every school in District 7 will capture the look and sound of the 1950s in a rollicking school musical that salutes an unforgettable era. The production will feature the talents of more than 90 students onstage and behind the scenes.

Directing the show is Deputy Superintendent Dr. Terry Pruitt who has an extensive background in the arts and has a directed a string of musicals for the District, including The Beauty and the Beast, Grease and Mary Poppins. Dr. John Moody, Director of Choral Activities and Chair of the Music Department, will lead the musical direction. Susan Woodham, dance teacher at Pine Street Elementary and Outreach Director for Ballet Spartanburg, and Caroline Pruitt, special education teacher at Chapman Elementary and dance teacher for Ballet Spartanburg, will serve as choreographers.

The play will open on Thursday, May 26 at the Chapman Cultural Center at 7 p.m., with additional performances on Friday, May 27 at 7p.m., Saturday, May 28 at 7p.m., and Sunday, May 29 at 3p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the Chapman Cultural Center Box Office.
