Spartanburg School District Three communication programs and publications were recognized with eight awards in the annual spring competition sponsored by the South Carolina Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association.
Broome High School earned four Excellence in Publications awards for its Course and Career Guide, Principal’s Newsletter, Programs of Study brochure and the I’m a Woman Concert video commercial. Cowpens Elementary School and Cannons Elementary each received an Excellence in Publications award for their school newsletters, Cougar Tales and Cannons Weekly, respectively. District Three’s website earned an Excellence Award for electronic media. Pacolet Elementary School earned the Golden Achievement Award for a community project entitled Pilgrimage of Place – Pacolet Community. This recognition is awarded to projects that represent an aspect of the overall public relations program. A team of community members and school staff worked on the project. Several schools and the district received Honorable Mention for their publications. They are: Cowpens Elementary, Cougar News (morning news program) and the Student/Parent Handbook; Middle School of Pacolet for Indian Headlines, school newsletter; and the District Office for Good News in Our Schools, district newsletter. The school public relations contest in South Carolina attracted 177 entries from a wide assortment of school districts, education agencies and organizations across the state. Two professionals who work in public relations and communications judged the entries. Each entry was judged against the criteria of the program, not other entries. Dr. Jim Ray, Superintendent, said “We place a high priority on excellence in communication with our citizens and these awards reflect our commitment and effort. We are proud to be honored by true experts in this field!” (Image provided by Daniel Morgan Vocational Center.)
