YouTheatre seeks to introduce all students to theatre arts, to encourage life-long relationships with the arts, to
focus on learning through practical experience, and to bridge the transition into the professional world.
This year YouTheatre will launch a brand new curriculum. There will be new classes that take advantage
of our state of the art Mac Lab, new teachers, and opportunities to learn from visiting artists at Flat Rock
Playhouse. Especially exciting is the introduction of new YouTheatre performance groups that will give
students the chance to sing, dance and learn - think “Glee meets School of Rock.”The goal for YouTheatre is to become one of the top arts education programs in the country - the launch of this new curriculum is a huge step towards that goal. The new YouTheatre has many exciting things going on – from clowning and comedy, to scene work and character development, to improvisation. Although one might only think acting is available at YouTheatre, however, there are classes in art, dance, music, technical theatre (such as costuming, lighting and set design) and even playwriting. The Education Center where YouTheatre is housed has classrooms, a professional sprung dance floor and sound booth, a multi-media library, conference room, music room, a video/computer room for archives and educational DVD’s, arts and crafts areas, costume and props storage, and waiting areas for parents. Most importantly, the YouTheatre teachers and staff are very supportive of the creative process – allowing students to feel confident to try new and different things. YouTheatre offers students opportunities to build self- confidence, use their imagination and make new friends.
