Our physicians, striving to bring superior medical care to the community, were the first to perform laparoscopic hysterectomy and bladder tack in Spartanburg and surrounding counties. We have two of only six physicians in the state accredited by the Accreditation Council for Gynecological Endoscopy.

On January 28, 1925, Dr. Hugh Ratchford Black opened a 35-bed hospital on the corner of Oakland Avenue and East Main Street in honor of his wife, Mary Black. Six patients were admitted that day. After 78 years of service to this community, Mary Black Memorial Hospital, an acute care facility licensed for 209 beds, continues to build on a tradition of excellence in medical care. Today, our medical staff of approximately 350 physicians represents all major specialties.
