On January 28, 1925, Dr. Hugh Ratchford Black opened a 35-bed hospital on the corner of Oakland Avenue and East Main Street in honor of his wife, Mary Black. Six patients were admitted that day. After 78 years of service to this community, Mary Black Memorial Hospital, an acute care facility licensed for 209 beds, continues to build on a tradition of excellence in medical care. Today, our medical staff of approximately 350 physicians represents all major specialties.

Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) is one of South Carolina’s largest healthcare systems. SRHS draws patients primarily from the areas of Spartanburg, Cherokee, Union and Greenville counties
