Samhat Appointed to NCAA Board of Governors

Wofford College President Nayef Samhat has been appointed to the NCAA Board of Governors, representing the Southern Conference.

He currently serves on the Division I Board of Directors of the association.

“The experience of the student-athlete is important to us at Wofford College, as it is throughout the NCAA,” Samhat says. “I am honored to have a role in making that experience the best it can be through the NCAA Board of Governors and the Division I Board of Directors.”

The Board of Governors is the highest governance body of the NCAA and is composed of institutional chief executive officers that oversee association-wide issues. The board is charged with ensuring that each division operates consistently with the basic purposes, fundamental policies and general principles of the NCAA.

The Division I Board of Directors, which emphasizes the student-athlete voice in its decision-making, includes 20 presidents, a student-athlete, faculty representative, athletics director and female administrator.

The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) is a member-led organization dedicated to the well-being and lifelong success of college athletes. The association includes 1,117 colleges and universities, 100 athletics conferences and 40 affiliated sports organizations.

Wofford participates in the NCAA Division I with 19 athletics teams.
