We received over 250 applications, said Doug McGrath, General Chairman of the BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs golf tournament. We are proud and pleased to be able to benefit so many people through this tournament, but we also realize the need is great, and we want to have a significant impact on each charity. As this event continues to grow so to will the amount of dollars that will be raised and distributed that will help those in need.

Besides earning a portion of the net proceeds from the tournament, charities can also earn additional funds in three ways: Selling tickets through their charitable organization, participating in the Charity Challenge Pro-Am, and by providing volunteers to work at the tournament.

Each of the 29 charities will receive $15 (75%) back from every $20 general admission ticket that it sells. In order for the charities to receive proceeds, tickets much be purchased directly from them. Each of the 29 charities are also encouraged to field golf teams for the Monday, April 26, Charity Challenge Pro-Am golf tournament. The winning team will earn $20,000 that will be distributed to the charity of their choice. Each charity is also encouraged to provide as many volunteers as possible. At the end of the tournament, two names will be drawn from the volunteer corps and a $2,500 donation will be made in their name to the charity of their choice.

Partnering with these charities is a wonderful way to utilize their resources throughout the community, plus it allows the charities to get more involved in this happening in a visible and dynamic manner, said McGrath. Along with monies they may receive from the proceeds of the tournament, they can directly impact the additional dollars they will receive based on how many tickets they sell, participating in the Charity Challenge Pro-Am, and an additional $2,500 going to charity based on their volunteers being selected via random drawing.

Last years BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs raised $674,788.03, a record for charitable donations on the PGA Nationwide Tour.

BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs will be played April 29-May 2, 2004 at Cliffs Valley and The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards courses, where amateurs and celebrities will be grouped with Nationwide PGA Tour professionals. All four rounds will be televised live by The Golf Channel.

The tournament is the premier event on the Nationwide PGA Tour and is the only event that features professionals paired with an amateur/celebrity partner in a two-day best-ball competition. The professional winner of the overall 72-hole event will take home $108,000 from the total purse of $600,000, while the amateurs/celebrities will compete for individual prizes and cash donations to the charity of their choice out of the beneficiaries selected by South Carolina Charities, Inc.

The first three tournaments have raised over $1.6 million for charity.

South Carolina Charities, Inc., a foundation supported in part by BMW Manufacturing Co., is in the process of determining which celebrities will participate in the 2004 tournament.
