6th Annual Brews, Blues & BBQ on June 5th

The 6th Annual Brews, Blues & BBQ event will be held at the new Northside Harvest Park on Friday, June 5th, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

The event will raise funds for United Way of the Piedmont early learning initiatives: Dolly Parton Foundation Imagination Library and Born Learning Trails.

Imagination Library currently provides one free book every month to over 9500 children ages five and under living in Spartanburg and Union Counties. The program removes one of the largest barriers to children learning to read – access to books by mailing the books directly to the children’s homes.

Born Learning Trails consist of ten engaging signs to help parents and caregivers turn everyday activities into fun learning moments. Young Leaders are placing and maintaining these trails in locations all across Spartanburg County.

Each ticket sold for the event in the amount of $30 can support one child enrolled in the Imagination Library Project. The event will include BBQ from Local Q, sides from Monarch Cafe, music by Zataban, Ice Cream from Strawberry Hill Farms, a photo booth and a Homebrew Beer Competition. Anyone interested in purchasing a ticket may do so online at www.uwpiedmont.org/bbb or by calling United Way of the Piedmont at 864-582-7556.

Brews, Blues & BBQ is coordinated by a team of Young Leaders who volunteer their time and energy to impact early learning. Kelly Harvey, co-chair of 2015 Brews, Blues & BBQ says, “As a mother of two young children, I know the importance of early learning programs and want to make sure every parent has access to programs that help them prepare their children for school.”

United Way of the Piedmont Young Leaders are committed to improving kindergarten readiness of children living in Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union Counties by supporting the efforts around early child care and education through building resources, recruiting volunteers and working to identify children with developmental vulnerabilities in order to offer early intervention.
