Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg will host the “Spring Exhibition 2015, Select Works by Scott Quinn” for the month of May. The opening reception will be Friday, May 8, 6-8 p.m.
Another reception will be held during ArtWalk Thursday, May 21, 6-8 p.m., both at Chapman Cultural Center.
Born and reared in Spartanburg, Quinn can’t remember a time when he wasn’t creating art. He has always wanted to connect with people through his work, creating opportunities to make viewers think. He has worked in many mediums and artistic genres, from sculpture, photography, and illustration to oil, glass, and gouache. “I aim to draw viewers into another world, away from their usual perceptual habitats, even for just a moment,” he said. “Sometimes it’s not even ‘seeing’ it but the sensing of it that makes me want to paint something—maybe I see something that not everyone else does.” Often a phrase comes to Quinn’s mind that instantly generates a narrative, and from that, an image is born from the layers of realistic fiction, artful truth, and the subconscious.
Over the years, Quinn has been honored with many recognitions and awards, including Best In Show at the Spartanburg Spring Fling Sidewalk Art Show, People’s Choice Award at the 39th and 41st Annual Artist Guild Juried Show, and being selected for Art Fields this year. He has had the privilege of showing in the Greenville County Museum Of Art, State Museum of South Carolina, and several solo and joint shows in Charleston and the Upstate.
Quinn was juried into the Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg at the age of 18 and now serves as its Vice President. Quinn strives for growth, evolution, and excellence in his art. Quinn’s current show, “Spring Exhibition 2015,” in the Guild Gallery is a collection of his super-realist works. Many of these works are derived from local inspirations and landmarks. Finding the area rich in visual stimuli, Quinn has no trouble finding subjects for his art.
