The Spartanburg Music Trail expands again when signage honoring David Daniels and Carlos DuPré Moseley is unveiled in a ceremony along St. John Street just on March 3rd at noon.
The public is invited, and David Daniels will be in attendance.
Carlos DuPré Moseley (1914-2012) earned worldwide distinction in a career as Managing Director, President, and Chairman of the Board of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. A recipient of South Carolina’s Order of the Palmetto, he was a founder of the Friends of the School of Music at Converse College and a generous patron of Converse, Wofford College, and the Chapman Cultural Center.
The New York Times called David Daniels (b. 1966) “the most acclaimed countertenor of the day, perhaps the best ever.” The son of Phyllis and Perry Daniels, beloved Spartanburg voice teachers, Daniels has starred in productions at many of the world’s most famous opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden) and the Bavarian State Opera.
The Spartanburg Music Trail opened in 2011 when signage honoring 12 musicians and bands was added along Main Street and Liberty streets. Since that time four others have been added in the area of the Chapman Cultural Center. The trail ultimately will circle the downtown business district.
The trail is produced by a partnership that includes the Hub City Writers Project, the City of Spartanburg, the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Spartanburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. Recent additions to the trail were selected in a poll conducted by GoUpstate.com.
