Guild Presents an Art Show of Two Good Friends

Spartanburg Artists’ Guild is featuring the art of Monta Anthony and Brandi Dice at Chapman Cultural Center during the month of June.

The works will be on display 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sundays through June 30.

Anthony’s oil paintings use vibrant colors to depict everything from landscapes and marsh scenes to vintage cars and motorcycles. Her theme for the paintings in this show is “Slow down you move too fast.” Anthony’s work often has a playful and whimsical feel, presenting objects such as toys and Pez containers. Her paintings for this show are “bar themed” in bold colors with fun backgrounds.

Anthony grew up in a small town outside of Richmond, Virginia before moving to South Carolina as a college student. Although trained as a classical musician, Anthony always felt more passionate about art than music. To feed her artistic urges, over the years she studied art and pottery whenever possible while raising her four children – three boys and a girl. As her children approached college, Anthony began painting seriously. Having worked in watercolors, sculpture, and large-scale murals, she found her love in oils and has since accomplished many commissioned works.

Dice was born and reared in a small farm town outside Flint, Michigan. Life led her to South Carolina in 2003, where she began her focus on art as a career. She opened The Art Lounge, a gallery and custom framing business, in 2011. From an early age, Dice loved to create things. As she grew older, she developed a concentration on painting. After exploring various mediums, she transitioned to oil. Being a self-taught artist, her style can vary between straight lines and rigid to whimsical or anything between – nothing is off limits. Dice’s artwork has been featured in numerous galleries in Michigan, South Carolina, and several magazines. Some of her more recent paintings hang at The Art Lounge.
