Southeastern Composers Converge at Converse to Share New Music

Composers from across the Southeast will gather at Converse College through February 28th to explore and share new music during the 2015 Southeastern Composers League Annual Forum.

Dr. Scott Robbins and Dr. David Berry, resident composers of the Petrie School of Music, will host the event, which is a partnership between the Composers League and the International Alliance for Women in Music. A series of free public concerts will be held throughout the forum.

“This is a chance for the community to hear unfamiliar and interesting music and meet the people who created it. We will explore new music by living composers, much of it experimental, and much of it not at all like the classical style music people usually associate with the Petrie School of Music,” said Robbins. “There will also be a large amount of electronic music (known as fixed media music today).”

The schedule is as follows:

Friday, February 27, 10:30 am: Concert II featuring works by Pressley, Price, Young, Willis, Kinningham

Friday, February 27, 1:00 pm: Concert III featuring works by McNair, Lee, Grier, McConnell
