Spartanburg Launches Revolutionary War Trail

Independence Day just got a bit more personal for the Upstate of South Carolina, as travelers can now explore where the Revolutionary War was won.

This development is thanks to a new brochure and mobile site highlighting monuments, battlegrounds, and forts in the greater Spartanburg County area.

The trail includes Cowpens National Battlefield, one of the three Southern Campaign of the American Revolution National Parks; Musgrove Mill State Historic Site; as well as Walnut Grove Plantation, a historic home that has been renovated and preserved, and is open for tours seasonally.

The Spartanburg Revolutionary War Trail is the latest self-guided tour produced by the Spartanburg Convention & Visitors Bureau (SCVB).

“This new Revolutionary War Trail highlights some of the most significant sites of American Independence,” said Spartanburg CVB Director, Chris Jennings. “It is another great example of working collaboratively to produce another first for Spartanburg.”

Jennings said the SCVB hired local consultant Becky Slayton to coordinate the project, who worked with SC State Parks, the National Park Service, the County Historical Association, local landowners, and Spartanburg County Library to produce the brochure, which will be available at the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center on North Pine Street, as well as several State Welcome Centers, the Chapman Cultural Center, and local hotels and attractions.
