Chapman Cultural Center puts local singer-songwriters in the spotlight during its weekly Sundays Unplugged program, providing casual and cultural entertainment every Sunday, 1:00 to 5:00 pm.
Art galleries and the history museum are open with free admission while musicians perform in Zimmerli Plaza, weather permitting, 2-4 p.m. Genres and musicians vary from week to week, and this Sunday, Aug. 2, Sydney McMath performs.
McMath, a Maryland native, has entertained at a host of venues both in the Upstate and along the East Coast for more than a decade. Though she came to study the arts at Converse College in 2000, she has been playing piano since she was 3 years old. Until her recent move to Louisiana, McMath was a piano instructor at West Main Artists’ Co-op and gave private lessons to all age and skill levels. McMath served as Contemporary Worship Leader at United Methodist Church of the Covenant as well. More than a year ago, she put together the band Rev. Syd & the Homewreckers, which performed both originals and lesser known covers with McMath as lead vocalist. Her music is often dark, though she credits Joni Mitchell and Carole King as her major influences.
Free admission to Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg, Spartanburg Art Museum, Spartanburg Regional History Museum, and the Student Galleries complements the weekly concerts. Spartanburg Science Center is also open with a small admission fee.
Sundays Unplugged is a program of The Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg, the administrative non-profit agency that owns and operates Chapman Cultural Center and provides cultural leadership throughout Spartanburg County.
