The Spartanburg County Foundation serves Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union counties and is the oldest community foundation in SC. It is home to many community funds and initiatives that work to improve the quality of life in Spartanburg County, such as the Citizen Scholars Program and the Southside Unity in the Community Fund.

The Appalachian COG, as the southern end of the appalachian region defined by the Appalachian Regional Council, provides support, funding, and council services to the municipalities and local governments in the six county Upstate region of South Carolina.

Area businesses improve and grow a healthy economic climate by promoting sound business practices and creating cooperative solutions through the Spartanburg Development Association (SDA). The SDA provides services including seminars, custom training, publications and consulting.
